Where to stay in Lagos?

Meia Praia for families

Dona Ana, Camilo and Ponta da Piedade: what is staying there like?

The upper area of Dona Ana and Camilo, south of the centre, is where the most beautiful and photographed cliffs of Lagos are, including Ponta da Piedade. It's a residential area, quieter and greener, ideal for those who come for the scenery and want to wake up near the turquoise sea. The trade-off is clear: you gain views and quiet, but you need a car for dinner out at night.

Praia de Dona Ana and Praia do Camilo are among the most spectacular in the Algarve, with ochre cliffs and transparent water. Yes, if you're after calm and still want Lagos nearby. Praia da Luz, about 68 km from Faro Airport and some 10 minutes by car from the centre of Lagos, is a quiet seaside village, with a sheltered bay, a seafront promenade and family restaurants. Burgau and Salema, further west (72 and 77 km from the airport), are old fishing villages that keep an unhurried pace, perfect for those fleeing the crowds.

Luz is especially practical because it has its own shops and easy beach access, without the bustle of the Lagos centre. For those who want the rental at Praia da Luz with the best of both worlds — quiet and city 10 minutes away — this is the bet. Burgau and Salema call for more car independence, but reward you with small beaches and dinners of fish just off the boat.
