Average stay: Algarve vs. Portugal
The average stay in the Algarve is 3,98 nights, well above the national average of 2,54 nights. People who choose the Algarve stay longer — it's a holiday destination, not a stopover. In the third quarter (summer) it rises to 4,17 nights.
Environmental quality: Blue Flag
In 2025 the Algarve has 85 Blue Flag beaches — the largest concentration in Portugal, which has 404 awarded beaches in total. The Blue Flag is the international seal for beach environmental quality, safety and accessibility. Source: ABAAE, 2025.
